About Salah Al Hashem

Sheikh Salah Al Hashem is a Kuwaiti Quran reciter, born in 1980, who has been one of the imams of the Grand Mosque of Kuwait, notably from 2002 to 2006. He holds ijazas with chains of transmission going back to the Prophet ﷺ in several readings, and lectures on the Quranic sciences and Quranic rhetoric, with a particular focus on the aesthetics of the Quranic text.

He began memorising the Quran at twelve, listening closely to the great Egyptian reciters Mahmoud Khalil al-Hussary, Mahmoud Ali al-Banna and Muhammad Siddiq al-Minshawi, to whom he credits the quality of his recitation. Taught by Sheikhs Nasser al-Othman and Adnan Abd al-Qadir, he received his ijaza from Sheikh Khamis ibn Abd al-Azim. He holds an unbroken chain of transmission in the reading of Hafs 'an 'Asim and an ijaza to recite and teach the Quran.

A regular imam of the Tarawih and Qiyam prayers in Kuwait, he has recorded the complete Quran in murattal style in the Hafs reading, as well as recitations in other readings, including al-Susi 'an Abi 'Amr, Qalun and Ibn Wardan. The reciter Fahd Al Kandari counts him among his close friends.
