About Yasser Al Mazroyee

Sheikh Yasser Al Mazroyee (Yasser ibn Ibrahim al-Mazrouei) is a Kuwaiti Quran reciter and specialist in the Quranic readings, with a doctorate from the Holy Quran University in Sudan. A student of the Kuwaiti scholar Muhammad Sulaiman al-Jarrah and the holder of many ijazas, he headed Kuwait's public authority for printing the Quran and the Sunnah. He has recorded the Quran in the reading of Ya'qub.

Education

He began studying with Sheikh Muhammad Sulaiman al-Jarrah at the age of fifteen and remained his student until the sheikh's death, by which time he was twenty-seven. He also recited the Quran to many other masters, among them Bakri al-Tarabishi, Ahmad Abd al-Aziz al-Zayyat, Ahmed Issa al-Masrawi, Abd al-Hakim ibn Abd al-Latif, with whom he completed a full reading of Ya'qub through the Tayyiba route, and Sheikha Umm al-Saad, under whom he recited the ten readings through the Shatibiyya and Durra. He earned a master's degree in Quranic sciences in Sudan, followed by a doctorate from the Holy Quran University.

Career

Imam of al-Suhoul mosque in the Abdullah al-Salem district of Kuwait City, he initiated the isnad circles (halaqat al-isnad) launched by the Ministry of Awqaf in 1999, then a Quranic readings course started in 2002, which produced Kuwait's first specialists, men and women, in the seven and ten readings. He also proposed the State of Kuwait mushaf, printed in 2008 in 400,000 copies for the country's mosques. These projects led to the Kuwait Centre for the Holy Quran and its Sciences (2010), which became in 2011 the Public Authority for the Printing and Publishing of the Quran, the Sunnah and their Sciences; he was its director general in 2015 and 2016. He also chaired the Ministry of Awqaf's mushaf review committee.

Works and recitation

His books include Fath Rabb al-Bayt, on the Quran masters of Kuwait, al-Tibyan li-man Talaba Ijazat al-Quran, and a commentary on Hassan al-Sha'ir's Tuhfat al-Ikhwan. His complete murattal recitation follows the reading of Ya'qub al-Hadrami through its two transmitters, Ruways and Rawh.
