About Khaled Abu Shady

Dr Khaled Abu Shady (Khalid Abu Shadi), born on 18 March 1973 in Gharbia Governorate, is an Egyptian preacher and author and a pharmacist by training. His books and talks, which focus on spiritual reform and exhortation, have circulated widely in the Arab world, as have his Quran recitations in the reading of Hafs.

Born in the village of Tafahna al-Azab in the Zifta district, he spent part of his schooling in Kuwait and graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Cairo University. Alongside his profession he devoted himself to preaching and presented the programme "Wa Tastamirr al-Ma'raka" ("And the Struggle Goes On") on Al-Resalah TV, a title he also gave to a two-volume book.

His other books include "Yanabi' al-Raja'" ("Springs of Hope"), "Awwal Marra Usalli" ("My First Prayer"), "Jur'at al-Dawa'", "Safaqat Rabiha", "Sibaq Nahwa al-Jinan" and "Al-Harb 'ala al-Kasal" ("The War on Laziness").

In June 2019 he was arrested by Egyptian security forces as he left a mosque in Cairo; the authorities announced no charges.

His available recitations follow the reading of Hafs 'an 'Asim and include Tarawih prayers from 1427 AH (2006).
