About Al Husayni Al Azazi

Sheikh Al husayni Al Azazi (al-Husayni al-Sayyid Ali Abd al-Ghani al-Azazi), born on 5 December 1956, is an Egyptian Quran reciter and teacher of the Quranic readings. An Al-Azhar graduate in the readings who holds an ijaza in all ten, he is best known for his Mushaf al-Mu'allim ("the teaching mushaf"), a complete instructional recitation of the Quran in which a chorus of children repeats each verse after him.

Education

In 1986–1987 he earned Al-Azhar's higher certificates in the Quranic readings. He holds an ijaza with a connected chain of transmission in the ten readings through the Shatibiyya and Durra routes, as well as two ijazas in the Hafs 'an 'Asim reading: one through the Shatibiyya route (medium length for the madd munfasil) and one through the Tayyiba route (short length).

Teaching and imamate

He first taught the Quran and its readings within Al-Azhar in Egypt. From 1991 to 1997 he taught in Saudi Arabia at the National Guard schools, while serving as imam and preacher at several mosques in Jeddah. From 2005 to 2008 he taught the Quran and the ten readings in the Department of Usul al-Din at Qatar University's College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, where he also judged Quran competitions.

He has granted ijazas in the Hafs reading to many students, more than ten of them in Saudi Arabia, and worked as a reviewer of the Quran recordings published by the Dar al-Balagh label in Saudi Arabia.

Recordings

Besides the Mushaf al-Mu'allim, he has recorded a complete murattal recitation of the Quran in Hafs, a mushaf in the Warsh 'an Nafi' reading broadcast by the Al-Majd Quran channel, a course on learning to read the Quran, and tajweed lessons for students.
