About Abu Bakr Al Shatri

Sheikh Abu Bakr Al Shatri, known by the kunya Abu Abd al-Rahman, is an imam and Quran reciter of Yemeni origin, born in 1970 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he lives. He holds an ijaza in the Hafs reading from Sheikh Ayman Suwayd and is known for his gentle voice and contemplative recitation, which is heard across the Muslim world.

Life and career

In 1416 AH (1995–96) he received from Sheikh Ayman Swed, the Syrian specialist in the Quranic readings based in Saudi Arabia, an ijaza in reciting the Quran in the Hafs transmission. He also holds a master's degree in accounting, obtained in 1420 AH (1999–2000).

He has led prayers at many mosques: in Saudi Arabia (the Sa'id ibn Jubayr, al-Rajhi, al-Shu'aybi and al-Taqwa mosques), as well as at al-Faruq Mosque in Dubai and Jabir al-Ali Mosque in Kuwait. He is the imam of al-Furqan Mosque in the Al-Nasim district of Jeddah.

Recitation

His complete murattal recitation of the Quran, calm and contemplative in tone, is widely broadcast by radio stations, satellite channels and Quran recitation websites.
