About Fares Abbad

Sheikh Fares Abbad (Faris Abd Rabbuh Muhammad Abbad) is a Yemeni Quran reciter born on 11 April 1980. Trained in the Quran memorisation circles of Sanaa, he became known for a complete recitation of the Quran in the Hafs reading that was broadcast widely by the Al-Majd satellite channel, and he leads prayers in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province.

Life and career

As a child he learned the Quran in the Quran schools of several mosques in Sanaa, and later in the circles opened by the charitable Quran memorisation society at Bilal ibn Rabah Mosque, where he completed his memorisation. In 1994 he began leading the Tarawih prayers at that mosque, which he continued to do for seven years.

He recorded his complete recitation of the Quran in the Hafs transmission in Yemen; the rights were acquired by a recording company in Dammam, and the Al-Majd channel, for which he became one of the reciters, together with many radio stations, brought it a wide audience. In 2006 he was invited to Saudi Arabia to lead prayers at a mosque in the Dhahran area.

He has also recorded ruqya (protective supplications), the morning and evening remembrances, and didactic poems such as the "Nuniyya" of al-Qahtani.
