About Mohamed Al Mohisni

Sheikh Mohamed Al Mohisni (Muhammad ibn Sulayman al-Muhaisni), born in 1965, is a Saudi Quran reciter and imam. He led prayers in Riyadh, then in Buraydah, where he made his name, and later in Mecca, and is known above all for the Tarawih prayers recorded since the late 1980s, recited in the rapid hadr style and charged with emotion, often to the point of tears.

Career

He first led prayers at about fifteen, at the Nasser ibn Sulayman al-Abbas Mosque in Riyadh's al-Khalidiya district (formerly al-Anuz). He then moved to Buraydah in the al-Qassim region, serving in the al-Muntazah district, where his reputation grew, before settling in Mecca. There he was for many years imam of the al-Qatari Mosque, and later became one of the part-time imams of the large Aisha al-Rajhi Mosque, opened in 2013 in the al-Nasim district. In 1414 AH (1994) he was banned from preaching for political reasons, and he has been arrested at least once by the Saudi authorities.

Recordings

His first recordings, of a few surahs, appeared in 1408 AH; the following year his Tarawih and qiyam prayers of Ramadan 1409 AH were released as a complete Quran, which made him famous. Later releases include those of 1411 and 1414 AH, a 1428 AH recording made at the al-Qatari Mosque, and one from 1430 AH. The Al-Majd and Al-Fajr channels broadcast a filmed complete recitation of the Quran in his voice, and his Friday sermons and exhortations also circulated widely on cassette. His recitations follow the reading of Hafs 'an 'Asim.
