He speaks five languages.
Career
Active since the early 2000s, he released his debut album Salawat on Awakening Records in May 2004, produced by Sami Yusuf. The video for "Al-Burdah", filmed on Turkish islands and released in 2007, was warmly received by Muslim listeners worldwide. It was followed by Beloved (2009), sung in English, Arabic and Turkish, Tabassam (2014), which includes a collaboration with Maher Zain, Balaghal Ula (2019) and the mini-album Azeem AlShan (2021).
His music blends Sufi influences, classical Turkish music, Arabic tradition and European arrangements. He has also worked with Hamza Namira, Raef and Irfan Makki.

In April 2012 he took part in the "Send A Little Hope" benefit concert in London, which raised over £175,000; in 2014 the "Sound of Light" tour raised £520,000 in Bradford for relief in Gaza.
