Surah Al-Infitar – Mohamed Tablawi

Al-Infitar ("The Cleaving") is the 82nd surah of the Quran, in the 30th juz. It is a Meccan surah of 19 verses, 82nd in the traditional order of revelation, after An-Naziat. It describes the splitting of the sky on the Last Day, asks man what has deceived him about his generous Lord, and reminds him that his deeds are recorded.

It opens with four scenes: when the sky is cleft, the stars scattered, the seas made to burst forth and the graves overturned, every soul will know what it has sent ahead and left behind (82:1-5). Then comes the question at the heart of the surah: O man, what has deceived you about your Lord, the Most Generous, who created you, proportioned you and shaped you in whatever form He willed? (82:6-8).

Over you are guardians, noble scribes who know what you do (82:10-12). The righteous will be in bliss and the wicked in a blazing fire (82:13-16). The surah ends: it is a Day when no soul will be able to do anything for another, and the command that Day belongs to God (82:19).

In a hadith reported by at-Tirmidhi and graded hasan, the Prophet ﷺ recommends it, with At-Takwir and Al-Inshiqaq, to whoever wishes to see the Day of Resurrection as if with his own eyes.
