Surah Quraish – Khalifa Al Tunaiji

Quraish (Quraysh) is the 106th surah of the Quran, in Juz' Amma, named after the tribe that ruled Mecca, kept the Sacred House and to which the Prophet ﷺ belonged. Meccan, it has 4 verses and is the 29th surah in the traditional order of revelation, after At-Tin.

It reminds Quraysh of their ilaf, the security and pacts that allowed their trading caravans to travel in winter and in summer, towards Yemen and Syria according to the commentators (106:1-2). Such favour calls for gratitude: "Let them worship the Lord of this House, who has fed them against hunger and made them safe from fear" (106:3-4).

Many commentators read it as a sequel to Al-Fil: having protected the Ka'ba from Abraha's army, God preserved the security and trade of its guardians. Some grammarians even connect its opening words, "for the accustomed security of Quraysh", to the previous surah. In the Mushaf, however, the two are separate surahs, each opening with the basmala.
